Get started with Timecard
Your company uses Timecard to track working time. You only need the desktop app and the email and password your manager gave you. It takes about five minutes.
- 1
Download the app
Pick your computer:
Mac: “Apple silicon” is for M1 and newer Macs; older Macs use “Intel”. Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac.
- 2
Install it
Windows: open the file you downloaded. If Windows says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway. This happens because the app is new, not because anything is wrong.
Mac: open the file and drag Timecard into Applications. If macOS says it can’t be opened, right-click Timecard in Applications and choose Open.
- 3
Sign in
Use the email and password your manager gave you. Forgot the password? Ask your manager: they can reset it for you.
Mac only: the app asks for Screen Recording and Accessibility permission. Allow both in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then quit and reopen Timecard. After an app update, macOS may ask again.
- 4
Read what’s recorded, then press Start
The first time, the app shows exactly what it records and asks you to agree. After that, press Start when you begin work and Stop when you finish. Missed some time, like a meeting away from your computer? Ask for it from the app; your manager approves it.
What Timecard records, and what it doesn’t
- Only while you’ve pressed Start. The app always shows when it’s on; there is no hidden mode.
- While on: your start and stop times, screenshots on a schedule your company sets, the app and window in front, and how active the keyboard and mouse are.
- Never: which keys you press or what you type, your webcam or microphone, or anything on your phone.
- Your company decides how long it’s kept; older screenshots and activity are deleted automatically.

Works on Windows 10 or 11, and macOS 12 or newer. Needs internet; if it drops, the app keeps your time and sends it when you’re back online.
